De Anza Exhibit
This series, exhibited at De Anza College, examines the often painful combination of exclusion in the midst of participation.
Being inside and outside at the same time might be horses in Kyrgyzstan who had been part of a collective farm and now roam free, though unattended. It may be children living in a residential institution in Romania who do not have their own toothbrush. It may be homeless Ethiopians living under a poster of the Prime Minister that hails democracy but all they receive is the protection of the poster. At times, however, we see participation be satisfying, such as a child living in a foster home in South Africa.
